Art&Newport, a nonprofit organization that brings world class contemporary art to Newport, presents a site-responsive installation of new works by Brooklyn-based artist Na Kim.
Installed within the Old Stone Mill, a 17th-century stone windmill in Newport’s Touro Park, is a suite of Kim’s new cloud paintings.
The works are mounted in weatherproof frames within the Mill’s circular structure, whose open oculus frames the sky above. The presentation invites visitors to look upward through the Mill’s open ceiling and experience a dialogue between the changing sky and the works it inspired.
A complementary horizontal cloud painting is on view at the Redwood Library & Athenaeum. Together, the works mark a new direction for Kim, who is best known for psychologically-charged portraits of people that explore the shifting nature of identity and perception. In painting clouds, Kim has found a similar sense of transformation and unknowability.
About the Artist
Na Kim (b. 1986, Seoul, South Korea) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Known for her mimetic portraits set against polychromatic backgrounds, Kim’s paintings depict figures while remaining conceptually abstract. Recent solo exhibitions include Memory Palace at Nicola Vassell Gallery, New York (2025), and her debut solo presentation at the venerable White Columns, New York (2023). In addition to her artistic practice, Kim serves as Art Director of The Paris Review and Creative Director of Farrar, Straus and Giroux.
